Our Year in Review

December 18th, 2023

For CSG, 2023 was all about keeping things steady, doing good work, and getting out and about networking with our industry partners and friends. From grand re-openings to new contracts and golf tournaments, we had a great 2023 and we’re looking for all that 2024 has in store. Below, take a look at some of our highlights from the past year.

January

JFK Middle School, Grand Re-Opening

The CSG team was honored to attend the JFK Middle School’s official grand re-opening, and had a great time celebrating the efforts of all involved with this project.

Shout outs to the school building committee members, Town and Board of Education representatives, architect JCJ Architecture, and construction manager Gilbane.

CSG's involvement with the Enfield Public Schools dates back to our involvement as OPM for the consolidation of Fermi and Enfield High Schools. We were honored to continue to serve in this capacity for the extensive facility and site improvement upgrades at JFK, overseeing science lab updates, locker room and gymnasium expansions and renovations, auditorium and stage expansion, and accessibility and code improvements. Sports field and court improvements were also completed as part of this project, as well updating and removing existing portable classrooms.

March

New Contract, City of Norwich School Building Committee

In March, CSG was honored to have been unanimously selected by the City of Norwich School Building Committee to provide owner's project management services for phase one of the District's $385 million school construction program.

The program calls for the construction of four new elementary schools to replace seven current schools, as well as the renovation of two existing schools into an adult education center and administrative offices. CSG's initial work, led by Program Manager Michael Faenza, will involve overseeing the preparation of grant applications and the subsequent design and construction of three new elementary schools on the sites of the former Greeneville School and the existing John B. Stanton and Moriarty Schools.

"I'm immensely proud of our entire team for tracking the evolution of this program and developing an alternate approach that ultimately differentiated CSG from our competition and led to our selection," said CSG President James Giuliano.  "We look forward to leveraging our relevant experience for clients on other large scale school construction programs like Norwalk Public Schools, to exceed expectations and represent the City's best interests throughout the course of our work together."

April

COLCHESTER SENIOR CENTER GROUNDGREAKING EVENT

Project Executive Mark Garilli, Project Manager Jon Gombotz, Clerk of the Works Mike Jackson, and Communications Consultant Lindsey Mathieu of Golden Egg Concepts represented CSG at the groundbreaking for the new Senior Center in Colchester, CT.

CSG is serving as Owner's Representative for the design and construction of the new senior center. The existing senior center will relocate from its current 5,600 sf location to a newly constructed 14,650 sf facility to be located on the Town Hall campus. The new senior center will feature a variety of activity spaces including a café, game room, arts and crafts classroom, library/lounge, conference room, multi-purpose rooms, and more than 2,200 sf dedicated to a fitness center.

June

CT Building Congress Project Team Awards

CSG's Jim Giuliano and Samantha D'Agostino attended the Connecticut Building Congress (CBC) 27th Annual Project Team Awards Banquet & Scholarship Award Benefit. Our team was awarded first place in the K-12 Large category for the renovations and construction at John F. Kennedy Middle School, recognizing project team excellence and best practices in teamwork by project owners, architects, engineers, constructors, and trades.

This project involved navigating the ins and outs of a multi-year phased renovate-as-new project. The safe movement of students, teachers, and staff was paramount as the original facility was renovated wing by wing. Congratulations to all involved, including the school building committee members, Town and Board of Education representatives!

CSG's Jim Giuliano, Jon Gombotz, Dan Phillips, and Mark Garilli grabbed their clubs and hit the links in support of the Construction Institute's Golf Classic. The team had a great time enjoying the sunshine and industry networking.

October

Cranbury Elementary School Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

CSG was proud to be in attendance at the official ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Cranbury Elementary School earlier this month. Hosted by Norwalk Public Schools, the ceremony unveiled the first new free-standing school building to be built in the City in over 50 years.

Also in attendance were talented members of the project team, including architect Antinozzi Associates and construction manager Newfield Construction, as well as Mayor Harry Rilling, Superintendent Dr. Alexandra Estrella, Principal Dr. Jennifer Masone, Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations Sandra Faioes, Building and Facilities Manager Alan Lo, and many other dignitaries from the State of Connecticut, the City of Norwalk and Board of Education.

It was our privilege to provide OPM services for the construction of this new school, undertaken as part of CSG's overall program management scope for the City of Norwalk.
