Project Manager Dan Phillips recalls one of his first jobs in high school working with a contractor who renovated and flipped condos – from full gut to refinish. 

“I liked the hands-on nature of the work,” Dan says. “It was the process. Having something to show for at the end of the day. On another job working for a roofing and siding contractor – I replaced vinyl siding and trim, and when I drive by now I look at it and think to myself ‘I was a part of that.”

Dan studied Construction Management at Roger Williams University, and started his career at the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. For his first project out of school he worked on the American Dream (formerly Xanadu), a large entertainment and retail building at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Here he was part of a large project team coordinating the interior fit out work for six different buildings as well as with other construction management firms on site.

Several years after the initial construction, Dan returned to the site to work on an insurance repair project installing steel rails on the top of the indoor ski slope.  When he drives down I-95 to this day, he can see the rails on the roof.

Prior to joining CSG, Dan worked for Gilbane Building Company, and has over 15 years of construction management experience on projects in the public and private sectors, for clients including Amazon, Yale University, Greenwich Public Schools and the State of Connecticut. Since joining CSG, Dan has been working closely with the City of Norwalk, managing the Norwalk High School and South Norwalk Elementary School projects, part of CSG’s overall program management scope with the City.

Dan is involved with higher level oversight the City doesn’t have the capacity to handle themselves, involving coordination between the design team, the Board of Education, School Administration, and staff, ensuring that deadlines are met and services are provided as required.

Outside of work, you can find Dan spending time with his family. Dan is an avid mountain biker, and has been racing downhill and enduro since early 2000. He has participated in races all over the Northeast and far West as Colorado.  He has even raced abroad in Mexico, France and Portugal. This coming October, he will be participating in a 4-day race in Oaxaca, Mexico.
