Staff Spotlight: Joshua Markowitz

June 19th, 2023

When Joshua Markowitz went off to college, he thought he’d be leaving the construction industry behind. He grew up visiting job sites on a regular basis. His father was the vice president of a large construction company that developed buildings in New York, Chicago, and Miami – many of the properties high rise condominiums.

“I spent a lot of summers on construction sites with my dad,” Josh recalls. “I’d often go and work with the plumbers. It was hard work, but I enjoyed it. At the time I just wasn’t sure if it was what I wanted.”

When Josh was accepted into Florida State University, he pursued a degree in Political Science with thoughts of law school on the horizon. It wasn’t until he reached his senior year when he realized he missed the construction industry and switched gears, pursuing a Masters of Science in Building Construction from the University of Florida.

Post-graduation, Josh moved to Ohio where he worked as a Project Manager and Project Engineer at a series of high profile jobs throughout the state, including hospitals, airports, and National Guard Warehouses.

In his role as Project Manager at CSG, Josh puts his 17 years of experience in the construction industry to work, helping clients throughout a wide variety of challenges.

“It’s a little different from my past positions,” Josh said. “I view my role as guiding our clients in the right direction.”

Currently, Josh has added his expertise to CSG’s work at the Mark Twain House and Museum and the exterior improvements to the historic property, and the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club in Bridgeport. He’s also directly involved with the revival of Batterson Park in Hartford. The City recently appropriated $10 million to rehabilitate, repair and construct new facilities. CSG’s work includes obtaining architects and engineers and presenting park concepts to the Park and Recreation Department. The park, abandoned by the City in 2015, is home to one of the biggest ponds in the state that is currently unusable due to a prevalence of algae in the water.

“People want to swim there,” Josh says. “Reviving this park for the City of Hartford will definitely help transform the area.”

Outside of work, you can find Josh near the water. He lives on the Sound in Branford and spends a lot of time on his kayaks and paddle boards. He also buys and sells real estate, completing renovations and renting out properties.
