CSG selected to support new Colchester Senior Center

January 20th, 2021

Pictured above: Plans for the new Colchester Senior Center call for relocation of the existing senior center from its current 5,600 sf location on Norwich Avenue to a newly constructed 14,650 sf facility located on Lebanon Avenue (Route 16) near the Town Hall and police station, creating a community campus with ample parking, close to downtown and senior housing.

The Town of Colchester has selected CSG to prepare and reconcile conceptual design estimates and provide community outreach services associated with the design of a new senior center. In preparation for a planned referendum on the senior center project in June 2021, CSG will work closely with the Senior Center Building Committee on a public involvement campaign to inform residents about the project.

The Town of Colchester estimates that 40% of its population will be over the age of 55 by 2030, and since 2013, membership at the current senior center has increased dramatically by 137%. A new facility will support the Town’s objectives to provide a robust quality of life for its senior residents.

The new approximately $9 million facility, which would offer the largest public meeting space in the Town of Colchester, will feature a variety of activity spaces including a café with commercial grade kitchen, game room, arts and crafts classroom, library/lounge, conference room, multi-purpose rooms, and more than 2,200 square feet of fitness rooms.

With energy efficiency in mind, the facility would include lighting and mechanical systems that meet the highest standards and use automation capabilities to keep costs down. Solar panels on the roof of the building are also being considered to be used for hot water.

"The new senior center will be a tremendous asset for the Town of Colchester and surrounding communities,” states Project Executive Mark Garilli. “My direct experience working for senior living providers, paired with CSG’s strong history in municipal construction, positions us well to lead this project. We’re enjoying working closely with the building committee members to make their vision a reality.
